Full mOOn 50K/25K @ Camp Ouachita
Jul 22 @ 7:00 pm – Jul 23 @ 4:00 am
Full mOOn 50K/25K @ Camp Ouachita | Paron | Arkansas | United States

Full mOOn 50K is the Ultra Trail Series season kickoff race and a celebration event honoring birthdays of favorite AURA Queens.

The race is great for first-time trail and ultra runners, pavement pounders and PRs! The out-and-back course is set on rolling Forest Service Roads.
The run starts at Camp Ouachita Girl Scout Camp in the Ouachita National Forest. There are restrooms on site and showers at the campground nearby we have paid for your use. So plan to stick around for the after-party. This year, we’re serving breakfast just like the old days. But we’ll still have the regular goods and super cold watermelon for sure!

Bring your running family and friends. Spectators are welcome and will probably be recruited to volunteer! (See our volunteer page for opportunities). Please carpool if you can! Parking is limited to the west side of Highway 324. NO PARKING ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE ROAD. (The side closest to the camp is off limits.) NO EXCEPTIONS. The Forest Service is very serious about this and will ticket and/or tow your vehicle. Follow parking directors as you pull in. There is no fee for parking unless you decide to park on the wrong side of the road – the ticket is $240.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the party and for the run. They’ll need to wear something reflective and probably be able to run with you off leash (leash in the dark is a tripping hazard for inbound runners). Email the race director for more information.

Expect heat, humidity & darkness. Bring a headlamp, salt and a 20 oz + water bottle. Bug Spray — Good idea!

White River 4 Miler @ Batesville City Hall
Aug 5 @ 7:30 am – 9:00 am

2017 will be the 39th running of the White River 4 Mile Classic. For the first five years, the race was a 10K, originally called the White River Water Carnival 10K Classic and was won by Tom Aspel in each of its first three years. The switch to the 4 Mile distance came in 1984 due to the hot, humid August weather frequently encountered by runners in Arkansas. Over the years, the race has been won by Batesville native Brian Baker 8 times, and 6 times by Angie Herringer on the women’s side. Andy Buschman and Jack Heston have run in all 34 races from 1979 to 2012.

Course Description

The race begins on Main Street, between 9 th and 10 th Streets, and is downhill for about seven blocks.  Runners will then make a right turn on Bayou Street and continue downhill while crossing the Golden Overpass.  The route continues on Bayou Street with a couple of small, rolling hills until just past the one-mile mark.

Soon after passing this mark, runners will begin a gradual climb of approximately six-tenths of a mile up North Heights Street, followed by a right turn on Craig Street and a quick descent for about two-tenths of a mile.  The course then turns right on Hill Street, where runners will soon pass the half-way point.

The route continues on Hill Street for a relatively flat four-tenths of a mile before turning left on Carter Street, just past West Elementary School.  From Carter Street, runners will make a right turn onto Charles Street, which loops back around to Bayou Street.  After making a left turn on Bayou Street, runners will soon begin a steep climb to go back across the Golden Overpass and finish the third mile.

Just after the three-mile mark, the course makes a left turn onto Water Street and begins a gradual increase in elevation for approximately one-half of a mile.  Runners will then make a right turn onto 10 th Street for a quick climb before making a final right onto Main Street for a fast five blocks downhill to the finish.

The race starts on the eastern edge of Hope’s Fair Park. After less than a tenth of a mile the route turns right onto 6th Street. Runners will encounter some gradual uphill on 6th St totaling a 30 foot rise. The race then turns right onto Main Street where runners will soon pass the one mile marker.

BIKE and HIKE for ALS @ Rockwater Village
Aug 27 @ 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

The inspiration for the Bike & Hike for ALS: Lester M. Vahsholtz

DSC_3762Les Vahsholtz, was diagnosed with ALS in of January 2012.  He, and his family, were just beginning to learn about this rehabilitating disease.  At the time, Les mentioned that he wanted to do everything he could to document his ALS, participate in clinical studies as he could, and take as many of his planned retirement trips with his wife, Carole, as he could.

Les’s son Tim wasn’t sure exactly how, but he wanted to do something different to bring awareness to the community about ALS, and honor his Dad at the same time.

Tim says, “I remember, when I was growing up, how my Dad, my sister, and I would always ride our bicycles after dinner.  I have always been into cycling since then, and my Dad started riding again a few years ago on one of my Orbea bicycles.  It is because of our enthusiasm for cycling, and Dad’s enjoyment of the sport, that I wanted to do this event in his honor and memory.

ARK 5K Classic @ Crystal Hill Elementary
Sep 2 @ 7:30 am – 8:30 am
ARK 5K Classic @ Crystal Hill Elementary | North Little Rock | Arkansas | United States

Race History

The Arkansas Running Klub has held this 5K race in North Little Rock on Labor Day weekend dating back to 1982. In the early years, the race was known as the Twin City Bank (TCB) 5K and held in Burns Park. Martin Fulk and Diane Marshall won the inaugural running in 1982. Mike Clark set a then Burns Park course record in 1983, clocking a 15:15 finish. Diane Marshall won again in 1983 and 1984, setting the Burns Park female course record in ’84 with a 17:55 time.

The TCB 5K joined the Grand Prix Series in 1983 – the second year of operation for both the race and the Series. After a change in sponsorship, the race was known as the Mercantile Bank 5K from 1996 to 1999. In 2000, the race course moved out of Burns Park to the North Little Rock Riverfront/Argenta area. The name was also changed that year to the ARK Fast 5K – reflecting the new course’s flat topography. Minor tweaks in the course and name continued in the 00 decade as the race was subsequently known as the River Run 5K (2003), Riverfront 5K (2004-05, 2010) and the Clear Mountain 5K (2006-2009).

A source of stability amid the changes in name and course is the race’s affiliation with the Arkansas Grand Prix Series. The ARK 5K has remained part of the Series (always on Labor Day weekend) every year since 1983. Along with the Spa 10K which also joined in 1983, the ARK 5K has the longest run of any race with the Grand Prix Series. The race has often served as an Arkansas State Championship event and was selected as the RRCA National Championship 5K in 1987.
