2019 Ride of Silence Worldwide @ E-Z Mart #617
May 15 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
2019 Ride of Silence Worldwide @ E-Z Mart #617 | Little Rock | Arkansas | United States

To honor those who have been killed or injured while riding, we ride together in silence as a memorial. This is a global event to keep fallen cyclists in memory and to bring light to the all too often tragedy of bicycle crashes.

Meeting at 6 pm at the parking lot next to the EZ Mart on Main Street (SOMA). We will ride two by two (side by side, two columns), no more than 12 mph, to the Capitol Building where we will have a short ceremony. Riders can find their own route back. There will be a BACA film screening at 8 pm in The Root parking lot. We hope most riders can stay to watch Blood Road,” featuring Rebecca Rusch who is in the process of completing the first thru ride of the new Arkansas High Country Bike Route.

BACA “Blood Road” Screening – Little Rock @ The Root Cafe
May 15 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
BACA “Blood Road” Screening - Little Rock @ The Root Cafe | Little Rock | Arkansas | United States

People ride bikes for many reasons. Often the opportunity to ride in honor or memory of someone is what spurs us to ride further on a different path. On this Worldwide Ride of Silence Day, Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas is grateful to share such a journey through the award-winning documentary, “Blood Road.”

Although she’s used to pushing her body to its limit, nothing could prepare ultra-endurance
mountain biker Rebecca Rusch for the emotional journey she took in 2015 when she pedaled 1200
miles of the Ho Chi Minh trail in search of the crash site that claimed the life of her father, a US Air
Force pilot shot down during the Vietnam War. The documentary of this journey, “Blood Road,” won the Bentonville Filmfest in 2017.

On the day Rebecca is scheduled to complete the inaugural ride of the Arkansas High Country Bike Route, BACA presents a free outdoor screening of “Blood Road” in The Root parking lot following the 2019 Worldwide Ride of Silence, https://www.facebook.com/events/2363907907173859/?ti=icl

The Root will be open and serving dinner until 9 pm and beverages until 10 pm. Bring your own chair or picnic blanket plus money for meals and/or refreshments if desired.

Screening of Blood Road will begin at 8 pm.

The  Ultra Trail Series awards ceremony will be held after the run. This is a NO-POINTS UTS run. It is the season-closer and basically a celebration of the end of another amazing year in Arkansas ultrarunning. A chance to close out the year with your closest friends.

To get there:
You should be able to find Williams Junction, AR on most maps; it is approximately 30 miles west of Little Rock on Hwy 10, or 20 miles south of Morrilton on Hwy 9.  To get to the race site from Williams Junction, go north on Hwy 10/9 for a mile and a half, then take Hwy 324 and follow for three and a half miles. Park on right hand side of road by Camp Ouachita. If the road turns to gravel you went half mile too far.

  • There will be a waiver to sign morning of run.
  • There will be an unmanned aid station at mile 9.5 (not part of Kitty) and at mile 14 (mile 6 for Kitty).
  • Please carry a water bottle and any snacks you want. Food at the aid stations will be minimal.
  • There is a swim area not far from the finish line for those who want to cool off after the run.
  • A cook will serve lunch at the finish. It will be burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers and all the trimmings.
  • The park does not allow dogs, so please do not bring your dog.
  • For more information, contact the race director Chris Baldwin

Course Description
The roads/trails used, in order, for The Catsmacker course:

  • FSR 152 (from Start at Camp Ouachita) turning Right on FSR 132
  • FSR 132 staying straight on FSR 94
  • FSR 94 turning right on FSR 805
  • FSR 805 turning right on HWY 324
  • HWY 324 to finish at Camp Ouachita
  • The Kitty Run course is the same as above with one deviation that is seen on the map. Approximately 3.5 miles into the course the Kitty run incorporates the Ouachita Trail for 1.5 miles and then turns back right onto FR 805.

Course marking will consist of signs, flagging with colored ribbon, and flour to mark directional information. In general, the focus is on marking turns and intersections. “Confidence” markings will be relatively rare. We recommend that participants print off maps if they are unsure of the course.

** Proceeds donated to AURA and Camp Ouachita.

Runner Safety:
It is always a good idea to carry a cell phone. The service is poor but most for of the course is higher up and has some service. If you are unfamiliar with the area, run with a buddy and study the Google Map. Print out the Course Map and carry it with you.

Go! Mile

One Lap. One Mile. One Fast Little Race. There will be different heats, including an elite heat (see below for who is eligible for elite status). All runners are chip timed, results will be based on runner’s time overall, not within their heat. Overall and Age Group results will look like it is one race. Please Note: Awards are based on time, only. At the conclusion of the all the heats, times are consolidated, then Overall and Age Group winners are decided based on time. No awards are given for top finishers in each heat.

The race starts and finishes in front of the historical Clinton Library Museum.
The starting line is located slightly west of Dean Kumpuris Drive on President Clinton Avenue.
As the gun fires, runners make their way along Pres. Clinton Ave and onto E Markam St before turning left onto Sherman St. The race then swoops onto E 3rd St until making a left onto Malhon Martin St. Spectators get a good view of the runners here just past half way as the route quickly turns left onto E 2nd St before a fast right onto Ferry St before making the last turn onto Pres. Clinton Ave. There the runners enter the inspiring tree and spectator lined finishing stretch, ending at the iconic Go! Arch!
