Five fun January runs in Hot Springs, AR and surrounding communities. Begins with the New Year’s Day Resolution Run, and continues each Saturday throughout the month. For walkers and runners.
The SPA Pacers are sponsoring a 2020 Winter Series – Destination Adventures that is going to be AWESOME.
For $20 entry fee, you get:
• Entry into 5 walks/runs.
• Water and snacks at each run. Long Sleeve technical fabric Winter Series T-shirt,
• Entry into raffles (at each run and overall) to win a variety of runner-loved goodies, including 1 of 2 $150 gift certificates to a running store. Each week names will be drawn for goodies. At the last event, there will be a drawing for a $150 gift certificate from all the tickets accumulated from all 5 events and there will be a drawing for a $150 gift certificate from just the participants that attended all 5 events.
• The fun of running with your friend, and making new ones.
• Walking and Running new routes in 4 counties. Garland, Saline, Hot Springs, and Grant.
You must be a SPA Pacer member to participate in the Winter Series except for the Resolution Run which is open to everyone.
Even if you are training for the LR marathon or some other run and need longer distances, join us for the Winter Series fun Walks/Runs and then add what you need.
January 1st – 9:00 am – Resolution Run on New Years Day. Run will be hosted by Jerry and Fran Rephan, and run from their home at 831 Quapaw, Hot Springs. Per tradition, we’ll include West Mountain in our local National Park with a variety of distances available with both road and trail route options. This walk/run is open to everyone even if you don’t plan to do the Winter Series, so show up.
January 4th – 8:00am – History on the Run 5K and 2Mile Walk – 521 W. Shackleford St., Sheridan. This is a run through historic areas of the small town of Sheridan to support local charities. Although this is an actual race, Winter Series participants will be participating at no charge. Winter Series participants can win awards but will NOT receive a race t-shirt unless they make a donation of $10 or more BEFORE December 15, 2019. You will need to register for head count. Once you have signed up for the Winter Series, you will receive an email with the secret code to enter when registering for the History of the Run so it will no charge. If you have any questions about this race, please contact the race director at firstname.lastname@example.org The History on the Run event will be a Prediction Run where you predict your finish time and walker/runner whose predicted time is closest to their actual finish time will win a gift certificate. At this event, you will need to come early enough for packet pick up for the race and sign in at the Winter Series table with your prediction time. Be sure to plan to eat breakfast as a group at Perfect Blend in Sheridan (self pay) post race.
January 11th – 8:00am – Dam Fun Run 6K – Stephens Park, Blakely Dam, 1051 Blakely Dame Rd, Mt. Pine. There will be a pavilion with a fire and bathrooms. Run will start at pavilion, go through Stephens Park campground, to boat launch area, through Avery Recreation Area, across Blakely Dam and back to the pavilion – super scenic run. There will be an optional shorter distance for walkers. People who need more distance can add 6 miles pre or post run by running the 3 miles to the spillway and back or trail runners can add miles on the LOViT Trail.
January 18th – 8:00am – Balboa Spillway Trail – 482 Ponce DeLeon Dr. Hot Springs Village. Super Scenic Route – across a bridge, waterfall if you take the time to step off the trail to see it, and across a spillway. Walk/Run will start at the Balboa Pavilion/Beach. Walk/Run will be an out and back with your choice of distance on the Balboa Spillway Trail which is a Cadillac trail – wide well maintained hard packed trail. Chris Biagini is sponsoring this run and will put out mile markers every half mile so you choose how far to go and when to turn around. From Hwy 7N West Gate, stay on Desoto to mile marker 12 and then Ponce DeLeon is the next road to the right. Turn right on Ponce DeLeon, go 1 ½ mile to the Balboa Pavilion. From the Hwy 5 East Gate, travel 2 ¼ mile, turn left on Ponce DeLeon and go 1 ½ miles to the Balboa Pavilion.
January 25th – 8:00am – Coffee Records 5K – 1601 Martin Luther King Blvd, Malvern. Coffer Records will open their doors for a place to stay warm, sign in, and use the bathrooms. The are sponsoring this run along with Charles and Teresa Sellers. Route will be from Coffee Records to the scenic White Water Park on the Ouachita River and back.
