Another Full mOOn Rising

It's 5 a.m., instead of being in a hammock at a campsite per the original plan, I've been in a soft comfortable bed in an air conditioned house for 4 hours. I've woken up twice already. It might be the small, but surprisingly painful patch of chaffed skin on my upper thigh. It could be nausea or it could be hunger, sometimes I can't tell the difference. It might be catching the sheets on the toe … [Read more...]

Bona Dea:  In the Time of “Firsts”

Welcome Guest Writer and Tie Dyed Trail Grub owner, Bill Dobbins This year’s Bona Dea 50k will always represent a multitude of “firsts” for me. Besides being the first Arctic run of the year, there were four first 50k finishes that I know about, a distance PR and a brush with running greatness.  My purpose is to tell their stories and not dwell on the cold, because even in the dreariest of … [Read more...]

First Loves

The Sylamore trail holds very special memories for me and the annual Sylamore 25/50K race has been on my races I want to do radar for a couple of years. I was a little disappointed when the race sold out in less than 20 minutes and I hadn't gotten a spot. Luckily, as sometimes happens with races, spots started opening as registered racers found they couldn't attend and had to give up their bibs. … [Read more...]

Basically, stay on the trail, watch … [Read more...]

19th White Rock Classic 50K

Imagine Sean Connery saying, “Welcome to the Rock!”  White Rock is not Alcatraz, but you have to admit it does sound cool when he says it.  No, this race is not in Texas nor does it go around White Rock Lake like the Dallas White Rock Marathon does.  Instead, this race is hidden in northwest Arkansas in the Ozark National Forest.  In my experience, when heading to a trail race or run you’re … [Read more...]

Ouachita Trail 50 – 2012

Would you run 50 miles of some of  the most beautiful trail in Arkansas? What if it was just 50 kilometers? Most people, even seasoned athletes would say that kind of distance is intimidating, but 175 people thought it sounded like a great way to spend a Saturday. I had thought that I might be one of them this year but instead of running I would be lying in wait at the end of the first big hurdle … [Read more...]

2012 White Rock Classic (Running Edition)

UPDATE: Race Results From Endurance Buzz. This may have been the first time I've been involved in two separate races on one course (although most participants don't "race" it). I decided to leave with the cyclists who started at 9 a.m. they would ride 6 miles before passing the running group for the White Rock Mountain Classic 50K. The runners started at the same time so I would miss their start … [Read more...]
