Broadway Bridge Reboot

(Opinion by site owner Joe Jacobs) Above is the map that was presented Tuesday night to local citizens showing a possible design for the Broadway Bridge. I've added a couple of circles and arrows (yes, this is feeling like an Arlo Guthrie song, if you don't know the reference ask your parents or grandparents.) The circles show two intersections which particularly bother me as a cyclist … [Read more...]

Can You See Me Now?

Daylight savings time ended this past weekend and on the first workday post Fall-Back, I encountered no less than 3 runners out at or after sunset with no reflective gear. I know, it's tough enough to get home from a long day at work only to pull on your running shoes and hit the door again. But since you care enough about your health to keep your body in peak physical condition, wouldn't you like … [Read more...]

Bikes, Bridges and Beer (and Baseball?)

The Arkansas River Trail in Little Rock and North Little Rock is a transportation corridor. That's right, it allows access by bike or foot to all kinds of great venues not just during the day but also at night. For instance, Saturday night, Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock played host to the 9th Annual Little RocktoberFest. This annual gathering of home brew aficionados, local brew … [Read more...]

Bicycle Boy

Last weekend I got my first chance to ride over the new Clinton Library Park Bridge. It was a wonderful ride. On the North Little Rock side I came across a bronze statue of a boy on a bicycle. It was an interesting thing to see, obviously not permanently in place but fitting as a welcome from the North Little Rock area to the new bicycle/pedestrian bridge. I took a photo of it, my wife Lisa and … [Read more...]

Safely on the way to Pinnacle!

UPDATE 05/26/12: Rumors are that residents on Pinnacle Valley Road are drawing up a petition that will limit cyclist use of the popular route to Pinnacle Mountain State Park and destinations beyond.  I wanted to remind all users to follow the traffic laws whenever you are on the road. If you are on a bike, stay to the right, go single file during times of heavier traffic and obey traffic signs. … [Read more...]

Connected in Arkansas

“Tug on anything at all and you'll find it connected to everything else in the universe.” John Muir I recently relented to travel out of state for vacation. We take a lot of short vacations/long weekends in the state. We enjoy camping, hiking, cycling, backpacking, floating and basically exploring throughout the Natural State. But usually, once a year or so we head out into the rest of the world. … [Read more...]

Traveling Back in Time, To The Future…Maybe

Sorry about that, I just channeled an 80's comedy/science fiction movie. On the other hand, it is kind of true. This past weekend I had the chance to visit some of my old stomping grounds, New Orleans. I was tagging along on one of my wife's business trips. We had the opportunity to stay in a wonderful old hotel in the French Quarter. She had business things to take care of on two of the days so … [Read more...]
